Attorney unclaimed funds.
When client funds in your trust account cannot be returned to their owner after diligent effort, Ohio lawyers can direct those residual amounts to the Foundation — putting otherwise-stranded dollars to work for access to justice.
How it works
After a lawyer has made reasonable, documented efforts to locate a client or third party owed funds held in trust, small residual balances sometimes remain unclaimable. Rather than sitting idle, these attorney unclaimed funds can be remitted to the Foundation, where they support civil legal aid for low-income Ohioans.
Why direct them to the Foundation
- The funds stay within Ohio's justice system, benefiting the same communities your clients come from.
- The process is straightforward and consistent with your trust-accounting obligations.
- Every dollar is leveraged — the Foundation raises more than two private/alternative dollars for each federal dollar.
