Legal aid strengthens our communities.
Civil legal aid keeps Ohioans in their homes, safe from harm, healthy, and financially stable. The Foundation advocates for the resources that make that work possible in all 88 counties.
When a family keeps its home, when a survivor of domestic violence secures a protection order, when a senior is shielded from a scam, when a veteran gets the benefits they earned — that is civil legal aid at work. It is quiet, essential, and it strengthens the communities Ohioans call home.
Where legal aid makes the difference
- Domestic violence & family safety — protection orders, custody, and safety planning for survivors.
- Seniors — guarding older Ohioans against scams, and securing long-term-care and benefits rights.
- Healthcare — medical-legal partnerships that treat legal problems as social determinants of health.
- Housing — eviction defense and habitability, keeping families stably housed.
- Financial stability — consumer protection, debt, and public-benefits access.
The funding model
The Foundation leverages more than two private and alternative dollars for every federal dollar it receives — stretching limited public funding much further. Sustained investment in civil legal aid is one of the highest-return uses of public and philanthropic dollars in the state.
