IOTA for title agents.
Ohio title agents hold client funds in trust — and, like lawyers' IOLTA accounts, the interest on those IOTA accounts helps fund civil legal aid for low-income Ohioans.
What IOTA is
IOTA — Interest on Title-Agent Trust Accounts — is the title-industry counterpart to lawyers' IOLTA program. When a title agent holds nominal or short-term client funds in a pooled trust account, the interest is remitted to the Foundation and used to fund civil legal aid across Ohio.
Your part
- Maintain your trust account as an interest-bearing IOTA account at an eligible institution.
- Ensure the interest is directed to the Foundation.
- Favor Prime Partner → institutions, whose premium rates maximize funding.
For IOTA setup, forms, and current rules, see the live IOTA for Title Agents page ↗. Institutions can find handling guidance under IOLTA/IOTA for Financial Institutions →.
